dream interpretation 101 understanding baby dreams

Babies in a dream are quite common. Some people have dreams about their own babies, while others find themselves caretaking babies that they don’t have in waking life. A baby in a dream represents a new idea. Therefore, the dreamer’s interaction with babies during a dream will reflect the relationship with his or her own ideas. For example, if you dream about being pregnant or giving birth, look for the ways that you are forming and considering new ideas. How you felt about being pregnant or having a baby will show your thoughts on the matter. As a dream specialist and teacher at the School of Metaphysics, I enjoy asking people about their dreams to promote dream awareness. Last weekend, I met a young woman who told me a dream with a baby in it, which serves as a great case study. She told me that the other night, she dreamt that she met a beautiful baby that, upon closer inspection, only had one eye like a Cyclops. After assessing the situation and deciding that the baby needed two eyes, she visualized and concentrated until there were two eyes. She noticed that although there were two eyes now, the eyes needed repositioning. She then willed the baby to have correctly positioned eyes. After accomplishing her goal, she walked away. The dream interpretation I gave her involved how she viewed new ideas in her life. In this dream, there was a pattern of observing and making adjustments in the baby until the baby was acceptable in her eyes before she walked away. This showed how she considered new ideas in her life, perhaps a creative project she was working on. Furthermore, the eyes were a central theme in the dream, which represent perception. Through giving the baby two eyes, she was added depth to her ideas in the same way that two functioning eyes give us depth perception. She was amazed at how much that made sense in her life. She told me that she was an artist by profession and was in the process of creating something new with her artwork. Here are some things to consider when you remember dreams with a baby in it: 1. Is the baby cared for in the dream? The baby’s well-being will show the amount of attention and nurturing you are giving the ideas in your life. 2. Is the baby yours or someone else’s? This will determine your level of ownership with your ideas. If the baby is yours, then there’s a certain amount of responsibility you have with your ideas. If it belongs to someone else, perhaps it’s an idea that was externally received, whether it be from another person, a book, or the media. 3. If you are pregnant in the dream, is the pregnancy healthy or are there difficulties? This will determine how prepared you are to give birth to new ideas and creations. 4. Is the baby in your dream one you recognize from waking life? If it is, the idea is something that you are most likely conscious of in your life. If it isn’t, your dream is present to assist you with becoming more conscious of your thoughts. Babies in dreams are common, because every creation begins with an idea. Many people are invested in learning how to create in their lives, whether it’s a new job, a greater relationship, or creating the type of person they desire to become. Next time when you have a baby in your dreams, celebrate the opportunity to learn more about yourself and creativity. Matt Valois has studied and taught at the School of Metaphysics for six years.
