are the government increasing the driving age
Nearly every year this rumour is spread about (I personally believe that this rumour is initiated by some of the large driving schools who benefit from the ‘panic buying’ of driving lessons!). What are the benefits/problems with the driving age as it is? Young new drivers (especially males who are new to driving) have the highest rate of accidents of all drivers. It is therefore suggested that raising the age will decrease the number of young drivers and therefore decrease the number of deaths and serious injuries - as simple as that. This theory has been backed up with statistics that show that although being an inexperienced driver has a large influence on the injuries and fatalities, people who learn to drive later in life, on average are involved in fewer crashes. Is it likely to happen? If the Government decide to raise the driving age, it is unlikely to meet much opposition, (unless the age to learn to drive is raised beyond the voting age!). After all
