basic guitar lessons how to hold your guitar
How to hold the Guitar Playing the guitar for the very first time can be extremely awkward for your body, because it isn’t really a natural position. It is important to remember to relax when playing guitar as it can be very frustrating for first timers or beginners who want to just pick up the guitar and play their favorite band’s songs straight away. Even if you do everything suggested to you here, playing guitar still might and probably will, feel awkward but should not be painful in anyway. Making sure you choose the right chair for your height is very important. So how do you know if the chair is the right height for you? When you sit down on the chair your knees should slightly angle upwards. If you cannot find a chair allows you to do this then I would suggest maybe playing on a stool where you can place your foot on the highest foot rest available, or getting a couple of phone books and placing them under your feet. The reason we want this slight arc is because playing the guitar on your tiptoes can be extremely draining even after a short period of time. Making sure when you play the guitar that your body position is correct is sometimes not always easy. A quick way to make sure you are in the correct position is to always have your back straight and your arms and legs in the correct positions. If you do not keep your back straight you will find that you will hunch over the guitar looking at the frets you’re playing and may damage your back. If you’re right-handed put the guitar on your right knee, the guitar should be kept straight, with the neck of the guitar slightly angling upward as the guitar’s neck gets further away from your body. If you’re a beginner and you need to look at the frets, simply tilt the guitar backwards allowing you to see the frets that need to be played. Now the left hand commonly called the fretting hand is normally the thing most people stuff up. The positioning of the fretting hand is really important, it is vital to put your left thumb halfway between the bottom of the guitar neck and the top. Once your thumb is there act as if you wanted to pick something up and close your hand with your fingertips pointing into the guitar. If you follow these simple tips you should be playing guitar comfortably in days for many years to come. .musicinstrumentguides.com/Guitar-Guides.html
