Camping is a great way to bring family and friends together to enjoy the great outdoors and commune with nature. There are dozens of National Parks in the United States that are great places to plan your next camping trip. Joshua Tree National Park Located in Jumbo Rocks, CA, Joshua Tree is one of the most popular parks in the country and also the name of one of u2’s most beloved albums. This beautiful 800,000 acre site is filled with natural wonders including canyons and granite monoliths, as well as the famed Joshua trees, which do not bloom every year. It became a national monument in 1936 and a national park in 1994. There are nine campgrounds within the park, some require reservations and others are on a first come, first serve basis. Dinosaur National Monument This spectacular park encompasses 210,000 acres within Colorado and Utah. Take a blast to the past by embarking on a guided tour to see the fossilized remains of the great behemoths that once roamed throughout the world. Take note though that the visitor center is closed until further notice. There are six campsites available to visitors and reservations are recommended. Olympic National Park Olympic National Park, located in Mora, Washington, is home to the largest herd of Roosevelt Elk in the world and was almost named Elk National Park. A variety of fun activities for the outdoor enthusiast are available including fishing, hiking and camping and nearly 40,000 people visit each year. Mount St. Helens/Gifford Pinchot National Forest In 1980 Mount St. Helens, located in Washington state, erupted in spectacular mushroom cloud of ask and rock that killed 57 people and destroyed much of the surrounding forest. It was a reminder of the power of nature, particularly for this 300,000 year old volcano, the most active in all of the Pacific Northwest. Thanks to accurate warnings issued by the U.S. Geological Survey however, the public as well as scientists from around the world can enjoy spending time beneath this amazing wonder of nature. Mount St. Helens is part of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, one of the oldest forests in the United States, and offers a wide assortment of campgrounds.
